Commission done for me by the most excellent runmonsterun!
Whenever I commission someone, I try to pick something I think the artist is going to enjoy doing because I just feel like it’s more fun all around that way. Since V and I don’t share a lot of pairings and since she’d already done the sweetest picture ever of Clyde and Marjorine for a trade with me (and holy heck, I still owe my half; I am a bad, bad person), I wasn’t sure what to ask for. Then I remembered the series she did of South Park kids and their families, and since one of my favorite parts of my headcanon on Clyde is his relationship with his mother, I knew exactly what to request. So here it is: Clyde baking with his mom!
I literally applauded when I saw this. First of all, Clyde is licking the spoon, which is something I’d wanted but I’m pretty sure I’d forgotten to ask for specifically, so kudos to V on being psychic. Not only that, but his mom is holding it for him, which is such a sweet and subtle way of emphasizing their relationship. There’s just such fondness between them. From her expression, I think his mom has just offered him the spoon, indulging him like she knows he thinks he’s too big to ask but she also knows he wants to. There’s also an equality in their relationship. Clyde looks so comfortable and confident; he’s contributing to this project with the skills and experience he’s probably been accumulating and honing since he was a wee little kid “helping” with the holiday baking.
And it’s definitely holiday baking—according to the open page of the recipe book, those are “gingerbread boys” he has on his baking sheet. Somehow that’s even more endearing than if they were making gingerbread men. There are other amazing details in the background V did for this, too, like the fact that the towel hung on the oven door handle is Towelie. And the milk cartoon! With Kenny’s butt on the Missing Child side! Genius!
Just, everything about this puts me in such a happy, warm, and wonderful mood.
(Thank you, V!)
